Where have all the good women gone?

It's quite possible that they are here all the time, they just don't let on they are female for all the reasons listed above (and a few others)!

The pedantry factor of many of the posters is off putting and a very (unpleasant) male trait. I have noticed that there is a degree of waspishness that can make posting uncomfortable if one mis-spells anything or gets confused. The forums are informative but lack lightness of touch. My wife says she sails to enjoy not to be educated and I expect the other women sailors are similar.

By sheer coincidence I'm looking at the forum today after well over a year offline...probably much longer.

Haven't been intentionally avoiding but real-life priorities and interests wax and wane, and once I got out of the habit of logging on I sort of forgot about the forum. Now the boat needs some TLC I've returned to find out how from the many knowledgeable and helpful posters round here.

Hello again all!

Hello again all!

Hello again. Two large cornets please.

Sorry, what I meant to say was that the forums can be a useful source of sailing news and technical information. I regard the banter as unimportant and merely meaning 'I am here', thus keeping avenues of communication open for when they are needed, often for quite serious issues.

We're probably all to blame, and I very much include Time Inc here. By operating The Lounge as a digital fight club ybw has created a breeding ground for aggression.

I couldn't agree more. The Lounge is an embarrassment, and most posters there seem to have no interest in boats. I wonder if Time Inc knows that it runs a discussion group for the EDL?

Agree entirely. In seven years on this forum I have looked at the lounge about a dozen times and (I think, even when drunk) never posted in it. I regard it as a sort of fly trap for the nutters who might otherwise destroy the boards with trolling etc. In that way I suppose it is doing it’s job well. It’s disappointing that it has to exist, but probably better for the real sailing forums that it does.

The advantage of anonymous aliases as are used on the forum is it is impossible to know the gender of the poster and really, who cares or who should care? I don’t give a damn and if it’s all men then so what? I’m pretty sure that the probability of male dominance in the technical sections is very high and in general in boating forums it will be high, that just reflects men being men and doing things, which generally speaking men are more interested in than women.

Or maybe you are more interested in the feminist narrative, which often says men and women must be forced into equality wherever inequality is seen. Good luck to you if that is your goal. Positive discrimination can’t work here.

Now that'd a piece of nonsense which should be kept in The Lounge. I presume that the Feminist Narrative is available in a box set with the Homosexual Agenda.

Pot, kettle, black comes to mind as regards nonsense. What on earth are you jumbled up about duck? Stick to the low alcohol drinks please, then explain what feminism has to do with homosexuality (at least on this planet).

Those generalisations regarding female skills/capabilities, seems extremely old fashioned & is ridiculous.

They were not generalisations about skills or capabilities, rather about interests. A very different statement. Women are not the same as men; haven't you noticed? And in general often do have very different interests, likes and dislikes.

I am aware their bits are different, but please don't assume their capabilities in a technical sense is subordinate to men's so called interests.

And the last few posts instantly demonstrate the attitudes and waspish behaviour that put people off the forum...
