Where have all the electric fuel pumps gone

Where does one buyin line electric fuel pumps( diesel ) ?

I See advertised in chandlers lots of mechanical ones for specific engines , lots of Rule pumps for bilges and bogs etc but not for fuel circuits .

Where do all the fuel pumps come from ????? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

ASAP Supplies have a couple of different marine ones, or you could buy from a car accessory shop.

A temporary solution .... and this is FACT .... and is NOT dangerous .....

Windscreen washer pump !! Yep - 12V, low volume - high pressure. Where do I know this from - Model Airplane engine fuel tanks ...... the 'flight-box' that most modelers use to carry props, fuel, battery etc. normally carry a re-fueling system - and they are windscreen washer pumps - forget the name on the thing and its re-labeling etc. Safe - having used them for years on methanol and petrol fueled models ....

At least it may help until you get a proper job - assuming that its just assisted lift to fuel for your engine ... and not high volume pumping .....

As I said in an earlier post if you search at ASAP Supplies for "Fuel Pump" you will get two diesel fuel pumps (12v - one large and one small) and lots of fuel transfer pumps.

Go to a LSUK Bracnh (Lucas) and get a Durite lift pump, specify voltage and whether you need to suck or lift the fuel, by suck I mean if your installation was near gravity level or if you wish to lift from below engine level, Used them for years, Getting one new is more than reliable than a srap yard.

Cheapest one on ASAP is £62 + vat plus postage. I think I would be tempted to find one at the scrap yard or 2 if if you are concerned about reliability.

In tank fuel pumps for EFI cars are quite brilliant being large volume and hyigh pressure though they draw about 3 amps but certainly rated for continuous operation. will

Re: Where have all the electric fuel pumps gone

With the Albin Vega the fuel tank is in the bilge so an additional electric lift pump is usually needed especially when re-engining. We nhave installed loads of Beta BZ482 13.5HP to our Vegas and I always fit a Facet Fuel Pump. Runs on 12v and is designed for the job. COst is about £50 but well worth it. I wire it up to ignition switch on the ACC connection. Kind Regards Steve Birch
