Where can I get one of these?

I would like to replace the old galvanised steel bollards which have rusted too much as you can see from the picture. I have the option of purchasing new stainless steel (if I find any) or perhaps, re-galvanise the old ones. If all fails, I could fit new ordinary aluminium or stainless steel cleats. Any ideas where to buy new ones from?

A bit of chipping/wire brushing and painting they would probably look as good as new.

I was going to say the same thing - I've metalbrited, chipped and painted much rustier kit than that as a matter of course on Stavros and William. However, this is a cleat which will presumably have lines surged round it, and that will take the paint off fairly quickly. So better off with stainless/gunmetal/bronze etc than trying to keep a coating in place.

Sorry, I understood from your post that you wanted galvanised bollards, and that stainless would be an alternative option.

I had my steel tripod, once hot dipped but 17 years on showing plenty of rust, shotblasted, zinc sprayed, primed and two part epoxied, £65 a square metre. Two outfits in Penryn if you have no one nearby. Trouble is you may knock or wear the finish off with ropes, I find the paint has gone in such places but the zinc is OK. I would go for hot dip on such a small item.

Some years ago (8 to be exact) I replaced the bollard cleats on a similar boat with gunmetal ones. Stainless ones seemed unobtainable except in New Zealand and the suppliers there did not respond.

I had no prior experience of gunmetal, but can report absolutely no discernible corrosion.

I would just clean those up, chipping hammer or needle gun then paint them. If you want rid of the paint finish remove them have them blasted to remove rust then either have them plated or flame sprayed with a protective coating.

Btw just to be pedantic there are no bollards on boats other than on warships only bitts, cleats, samson posts, stag horns etc. Bollards are on the quayside.

We have found it impossible to to get fittings to match weather metals or plastics; i.e interior, so we have made our own in stainless bespoke to keep the boats integrity. We sail a nich 35 1972 an know the problem well. Tim
