Where are they all?

I see that the number of boats for sale on the ybw site has jumped from 46,000 to 50,000 during the last week. I wonder who counts/checks them, where do they come from and where are they all? Is this a sign of distressed selling on the way?

The number of boats for sale on ybw-boatsforsale has been steadily climbing; it's not possible for us to add the odd few to the banners and buttons and so we wait until there's been an appreciable change before changing the numbers. Reasons: more brokers on the system primarily, not necessarily a sales trend although the autumn winter period traditionally is a time for more craft to be on the market.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply, but are the figures up to date/accurate? If there are 4,000 new boats added it would imply some sort of turnaround. Are there really thousands of boats sold a month, not having a pop at ybw, just curious to find out the real size and strength of the market.

To clarify previous point that's 4000 boats added since the mid year point, the growth in part coming from the addition of new brokers to the system, not from existing brokers. In fact over the summer the numbers dipped briefly below 46,000 as some of the stock was sold.

Also worth noting that the total represents a fleet on both sides of the Atlantic and across continental Europe, not just the UK.

To further nurture your interest, try the search tools on http://www.ybw-boatsforsale.com which include, amongst other things, search by country, boat type, size, value, age and so on. Quick search (the first screen that appears) gives you all of those...advanced search allows you to filter even further.

Thanks again Kim, like it & been there loads of times, seen the same old boats for sale forever, however have noticed that you are getting more brokers on which is good 'cause it saves having to trawl around loads of different sites. Still interested to learn the aproximate size of the yacht market and the volumes and units of new & used boats traded each year if that is possible.
