When is a Rodman not a Rodman?

After spending a considerable amount of time aboard a Rodman 1250 and being very impressed with the ride and handling I now need to ask the vast wealth of knowledge that is the YBW forum can anyone suggest very similar alternatives to the Rodman as a brand.

Price and build need to be on a fairly similar level.

Ideally a range of boats not dissimilar to Rodmans own range, but not exactly the same.

The Rodman is fairly unique in the sport fisher field in that it offers the massive side decks, typically none of the American or Australian offerings do. Anyone have any ideas???

I need a boat for more than just sport fishing, but it needs to be able to handle the blood and guts side of angling.
I need a boat which is luxurious enough to impress without being OTT
I need a boat which drives effortlessly, can handle a decent sea and comes in and out of the marina without too much fuss.
I need a boat I can code for 10 or 12 corporate guests, but be comfortable to cruise with between four and six.

Is their anything out there on a par with the Rodman 1250????
 
I think you can look at these
- Beneteau Antares range
- Jeanneau Merry Fisher (only till 10 meters)

There is some other Italian yards which offer a similar concept but I beleive the price to be higher. But for some reasearch the name is Cayman, Tuccoli (no fly at 12 metres), and Ars Mare.
The old Uniesse's like the 40 Fly can also be good, no walk around decks but sea keeping is always top notch, Stopped production in late ninties. Today smallest boat is the 42 Open.
 
Tom, the Guru, asking about "which boat?"... ???

I could only suggest something like an Interceptor 42 or a wildcat... they look pretty impressive and if you're talking "top end" clients, they seem to have a good build quality.

Do please post if your plans come to pass... whatever they may be!

You could look at the Faeton range also built in Spain , indeed I think by a breakaway from the Rodman group so pretty similar in style and quality.

Only other alternative in my book would be the Antares 1380, I bit more swish but ticks all the boxes and a hull that knocks any Italian or Brit builder into a cocked hat. Been out in some serious stuff in one and was just amazed what it can take.

To be honest though you would go along way to beat the Rodman if it is a cross over style of thing you want.
 
I was thinking Starfisher - being connected with Rodman in the past - but they are not big enough. What aboout going skandic - maybe the Botnia Targa? Excellent Sea Manners, Plenty of Deck. Internal accomm maybe too small though unless you went for the larger end.
 
In France we saw lots of Rheas, looked well made but not sure if they make anything as large as 12m. If they do I'd certainly be considering them. Or the Beneteau anatres 12.5m or similar size. But the Rodman will be hard to beat.
 
Ah yes I think you are right it was Starfisher that was somehow connected to Rodman. Targa range top dollar machine but pretty scant on accomodation though as you suggest, there are a few builders of similar style to Targa in the scandi area and better accomodation, my choice in that style of thing would be the Delta , expensive but a sublime machine .

The Deltas look very nice but like most skandi boats seem farily expensive and ... "Topphastighet upp till 46 knop" sounds fast to me too!

Back to Rodman.... before we bought our current, we looked at the 1040 and nearly bought one. Engine access was a concern, but could be lived with. Perhaps unfairly, they were said by some to be quite a wet boat compared to others - but not sure how true that is. For us (swmbo) it was the ladder (as opposed to stairs) to the FB that was one of key reasons we did not buy. Build quality IMO was very good in line with Botnias and I thought better than the 'eau boats - though in the end that (prestige) is what we bought!

nope

the 41 from the same stable has more cruiser elements - the 1250 Fisher Pro is what you (and I) need. I still prefer the older 1120 because of the hull; but things move on and the new one is more fuel efficient and provides more interior space.

Honestly why I know Rodmans good seakeeping and Antares are not bad seakeepers qualities, I think few boats can handle the seas as good as an Uniesse. Pity that there new range is not so sportfishing.
I have been out on the small 42 Open in 6 footers F5 seas and that boat was just a dream. Do you know that the hull of Uniesse is from Walt Walters i.e Jim Wynn????
Altough then the price is different too much from any Rodman and Beneteau especially with the new models.
Also the Tuccoli boat altough a small builder is not to be taken lightly as is OBP from Rome. This last a bit too American styled and no walk around.
If you go Sportfishing there is a lot of good boats, and the other side of the pond has its quality brands. Like Carolina Classic which is another bullet proof boat, or an Albemarle. Problem is none of these are walk around and they cost more. Without taking away from Rodman they are more strong build.
Surely between Rodman, Beneteau, and Faeton I would go for the first.
