hi, it's raining and you can't varnish in the rain...

so i thought you'd all be here.

what i'm after is an old style steering wheel, (ok then helm). for my old kingswift. it fits onto the old style teleflex hub by means of a taper and woodruff key.

the one i have is damaged and i'd like an old one to replace it. someone's got to have an old one lying in the shed they'd like to sell me?

if you have PM me with the details and a phone number.. cheers, steve.

You'll have to give us a description f the old wheel. F'rinstance, is it turned wood, or cast iron? If it's turned wood, does it have a brass band around the face of the rim. [And I'm not talking about the Black Dyke Mills kind of band, either]. If it's cast metal are the spokes straight or curved?

it has an ally hub, galvanised steel spokes and woonen rim with projected handles. it's horrible.

iv'e just got back from netley, and they had some nice ones there, only i didn't know whether the taper would be the same. i'll take an old spindle to the next boat jumble, they seemed to have a few of them up there.

cheers, steve.

Hi Steve,

I bought one off Old Sandy at my Boat House a couple of weeks ago for a whole poond. Unfortunately, it's too big so I'll photo it this week and PM you. One of the spokes needs a new wooden handle turning but otherwise seemed fine.
