Either way, it's a craphole past it's heyday. Believe it or not, Great Yarmouth has more charm than Blackpool, and that's saying something!

Had a weekend in Blackpool a couple of years ago about this time of year. Nowhere decent to eat, **** beer, and a decidedly seedy atmosphere.

Got the tram to Fleetwood, marginally nicer.

I spent a week in Blackpool in July 1969. A strange mix of memories: the most vivid being the first moon landing, seen on the "private hotel"'s wee B&W telly. The trams were, and are, great. (For many years, until the recent revival, Blackpool had the only surviving public tramway in the UK.) What else? yes, getting tennis elbow through pulling the handles of innumerable 1d slot machines...

A much later visit at the TUC (early 2000's?) showed how little had changed (or improved). The Winter Gardens must be the most uncomfortable conference venue in the country. I did, however, manage to remain on a tram unobserved while it traversed the Fleetwood turning loop (no passengers allowed for elfin safety reasons)...
