Whats the correct prcedure for Slab Reefing?

As tome , I don't bother to add a line thro' the eyelets, only when putting in the 3rd reef - and only then if its easy. The 'bunt' of the sail just hangs on each side of the boom quite happily.

I'd rather be sailing... :-) /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I now try to avoid doing this (leaving the topping lift on), by un-clipping from the end of the boom and attaching to the mast. That also stops it getting caught up in the tell-tails. Now all you have to remember is to put it back before reefing, so it is more difficult to reef "on the move". Nothing seems to be perfect.

Also worth noting that if you've a goose-neck on a track you will need to raise the boom to the top of the track and lock it off after releasing the main and kicker, but before easing the main halyard.

Another point worth a mention is to make sure that you put the cringle onto the horn the right way round.
If you put it on the wrong way, when the luff is tensioned, the sail just above the cringle will be tensioned against the end of the horn. The horn can then rip through the sail.
