. . . boating kit you've bought for under a tenner? And for you old salts, I'm talking in the last two or three years, not way back when you could diesel up and still have change for the pictures.

Is it possible to buy any "boating kit" for under a tenner?

Tenner? Blimey... pack of Pampers/Huggies nappies. To suck up red wine from white carpet, sort out bilges, catch the craap when changing black tank pumps, etc etc.

1. WD40 for things that should move but don't
2. Duct tape for things that move that shouldn't
3. Cable ties for things that neither 1 or 2 above can fix!

More seriously though, a large plastic box with clip on lid for the flybridge. We stick charts, drinks, food etc in it for longer passages up top and the contents stay dry and don't blow away. This was a tip given to me by a friend, that works really well!

I like the hand held thermometer thing where you point it at any part of your engine while it is running and where the laser beam touches with a red spot it gives you the temperature. So when my new (15 year old boat) finally manages to do a day on Windermere before I take it to Sea, I will know what the operating temperatures are of each working part.

Also "Self Amagamating Tape"

I have one of those and they are very useful but unless you got a cracking deal it must have been over a tenner
