The vast majority get on fine. There's a lot of banter here between the two, though it's mainly jovial between forumites that have met, and many of us have a foot in both camps. Only a very small minority actually seem to have real issues.
It's one of the more popular threads hereabouts, and so the regulars here have seen it aired many a time. A bit like ensigns and flag etiquette etc etc.
The Raggie/Stinky bit is done to death regularly but who are these new lot trying to get in, the Boaties and the Yotties - it was bad enough with the two groups without sub groups forming.
Can a Yottie like a Stinky but not a Raggie, or a Boatie like them all? Is a Stinky not a Boatie or a Yottie not a Raggie? Aren't Stinkys, Raggies and Yotties not all Boaties?
I think you need to go off and think about this one.
I am fortunate to be a member of a club that has power boat, fishing boat and sailing boat members and we get on fine. there are many cruises that we do together during the season and it would not be the same if we did not mix so well.
Personally, I or my wife have not met a Mobo crew that were not pleasant. there are far more arrogant dinghy sailors expecting me to move out their way in a narrow channel (Exe) because they believe they have the right of way depite the fact they don't my draught and I am restricted.
I can tell of many incidents of bad manners and arrogance from raggie to raggie but it's not worth it.
We go away at weekends and enjoy ourselves with mobos and fishermen alike and I do get fed up with the constant posts attempting to create a reaction. It's not necessary.
Anyway, Ive said my bit so I hope I have not offended you.
Blimey, bit touchy tonight aren't we? He asked a question in reponse to Ashanta's reply. I just answered the question. I made no comment on whether I thought it was an overdone thread or not, and seperately I posted a totally serious response to his original question. What exactly have I done to put your hackles up? Where did I imply that this forum is not for all?
Why make such comment? I am a relatively new comer to this forum but I appreciate the usual passage of interesting comment and support from other forumites. In the short time I have been participating i can only say that this has been one of the most boring and common posts to be read.
I don't sail in the solent and that is probably a very congested area but then marina's and anchorages all along the south coast are becoming more popular. We should face this fact and learn to enjoy each others company.
By the way, I am old guard. I was a career soldier, having previuosly trained for the Navy and I can honestly say that the soldier did know how to "stand to attention"
This Boatie has driven MoBo's, sailed yots, dingees even (god forbid) PWC, but I must admit I never could stand up on a sail board so the're out, but I have to say that almost everyone from everyside of our sport is good to know, it's the last 1% that give the other 99% a bad name.

They always wave when they go by too /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.
I know they are just showing off that they can go faster than me so I sometimes ignore them, if I am feeling particularly generous, but I usually make rude signs or noises while jumping up and down.
