That wonderful Scottish word "Clype" comes to mind.

<font color=blue> Its a little sailing dinghy. I think they have a class of their own for racing.

Re: what\'s an albacore dingy?

Are raggies allowed to post here?

I'll take the risk then.

Its a 15ft half-decked, moulded ply, centreboard dinghy manufactured by Fairey Marine around 1959 with a letter A on the sail. It was adopted by many Service sailing clubs. There's room for two adults and two or three children and is stable - so quite a good family boat.

I know all this because I have a book to refer to, not because I'm clever!

Right. I'm off!

Gents - It's a sailing dinghy, 15 foot, I think. Lots of info at www.albacore.co.uk. Very old design but they still get raced very actively (well, someone had to be boring and answer the question.....)

Stuff you and your <font color=blue>'very old design'</font color=blue>. Boats weren't always made out of GRP, you know. I used to race in Albacores (and many others) in my teens - in the late fifties. Wonderful big, tough, dinghy - sort of a grown-up Firefly, also made in cold-moulded ply by Fairey. We had an annual race called The Three Mile Limit. A buoy was placed three miles offshore from Harwich and we had to sail round it. First time I ever went 'foreign' as Skipper of my own boat!!

its not bloody plywood, its hotmoulded agba,a a type of mahogany, they were one of the dinghys made by Fairey Marine, as was the firefly, nice boat the albacore, have you found one then? you could join the Fairey owners club, snotty bunch cept me tho, that huntress was not a huntress, it was built on huntress plans but using plywood not hot moulded, cheap tho....think its still for sale
