If it were pure fantasy land, I’d like a collaboration between Swan and Amel. The sailing ability / mile munching speed of Swan and the effortless comfort & protected helm of the Amel.

That and enough to roam the worlds oceans for the next 10 years without any financial worries.

I think the Bavaria C50 was the best I saw at the show this year. The HR was possibly slightly better quality but the layout was quite poorly thought out. The Beneteau Vision series was really nicely thought out too. If we're in dreamland though a 50' modern cat would be lovelly but I'm about £800k short!

Hallberg Rassy 40c. I ache for this yacht.

There's something I don't like about the sniffy implied answer to my question "why do they add a grand a year to marina bills by making their boats a whisker over 12m rather than a whisker under?" where the HR saes folk are trying to find a reasonable way to say "our customers don't care about £1k/pa". The pal I went to boot with loved those individual armchairs. I did not.

I'll take the centre cockpit version of the Najad 395 thanks which as a new owner I could ask for in something other than that dodgy najad red. Admittedly with the najad at about half a million, £20k for the difference between 11.99 and 12.3 m over a couple of decades isn't that much

If money was no problem, a brand new cold moulded version of Stormy Weather please - I sailed on her a lot in the 90's under her previous owner, and she is just a dream to sail.

A more realistic favourite would be an S & S 34 - I did an ocean passage on one once, and she was wonderful. .

Equally, I wouldn't say no to a modern BenJenBav type - I fully appreciate their advantages over MAB's.
(I am not fussy really!)

At the same time, I also have a soft spot for Richard Woods' catamaran designs - his Gypsy would be more affordable than say a Dazcat.
I bought a set of study plans for Gypsy about 20+ years ago, but other things happened, and I never did build one.

What would your favourite yacht be and why?
I’ve been thinking for quite some time that the best boat for Milford Haven would really be a Moody 31. Second best would probably be the Hanse 301 that I do have.

left to my own devices my dream yacht would be a luffe 40.04 but nobody knows what that is, except the missus, who rightly points out that it is (from her perspective) a bigger and therefore worse version of what we already have.

Sometimes not having a more weatherly boat bothers me, but having a bigger one doesn’t, and The best bit of owning the boat I have is sleeping well knowing I can afford to keep owning it whatever comes, I think.

Interesting (to me) that conventional 'dream' choices are mostly boats that would be best enjoyed in dreamy weather, too.

If I could afford a boat that can gallop across warm blue oceans, I'd prefer one that felt luxurious even in a British winter. :)

It's not like the Cheoy Lee (pictured) can't cross oceans too - but you wouldn't feel obliged to go south for comfort's sake.
