What would be your response if walking round the LBS next week and you encountered an agrieved customer in front of a particular stand handing out leaflets giving brief details of problems encountered and poor customer service? Would you take one?

Keep an open mind

My personal view is take the leaflet by all means (literature distribution in the corridors by non-authorised people/companies is not allowed at Earls Court so you had better be quick) but keep a wary and open mind about its contents and read as much between the lines as on them before making your judgement. There are usually two sides to every story...

I did a similar thing at the LBS a couple of years ago but instaed of handing out leaflets I talked to people as they wrere about to enter the stand and told them how this company had behaved towards me. A fair percentage walked away and I gained immeasurable satisfaction from the look of complete fury on the proprietors face! Good luck!

I think Kim raises a good point about your limited rights inside the show but remember at most popular shows you will have a captive audience in the queue for tickets outside.

Why not air your grievance online, a strong critique of your opinions from people here might improve your argument or stop you handing legal ammunition to the merchant concerned.

People don't mess me about ever, so I'd ignor the leafleter, he should be man enough to sort out his problems instead of acting like a kid.

Well as I am being messed about, which is quite unusual, I would appreciate some considered advice. Marine solicitor has already pointed out many failings of company involved but do you know the kind of fees these guys charge...could buy a new boat.

Admittedly

It helps being six foot four and built like a brick sh*t house, but I'd find the M.D. and have it out with him'her, a good verbal assault with them on the show stand should do it if you feel justified, but its no good having a go at the staff, they are just working Joes like you or me, plus half of them will be show wallers hired in just for the show, alternatively try the small claims court, you can do that without a solicitor, or is the loss a lot of dosh?

Re: Keep an open mind

Thanks for the bit about distribution not being allowed..I can,t be quick after all the heart atacks so would be in my wheelchair anyway.

Yes there are always two sides to any story but we never get to here them and what we..boating fraternity.. could possibly do with is a sort of Watchdog programme as a means of naming and shaming those firms which do let us down. Legal redress is VERY expensive and regulatory bodies such as FSA and GISC rather long winded and some what short on teeth. When your boat is high and dry, not protected and not being worked on as was the original promise in this case, then frustration, anger and resentment set in, but even more so when you are led round and round the garden. So far I've had to spend over a thousand pounds to protect my interests, but it seems more and more likely that I'll only be able to do that if I go to Court, which according to Hill.Dickinson marine solicitors and a surveyor I had to employ, more and more clients are having to do with this company.

If you would like more information and even copies of all paperwork I would be most willing, just so you can get a fuller picture. We really need a way of shaking up poor customer service as it never seems to come cheap to boat owners.

You have no idea of my mentality, I am managing director of an international company, I just believe that companies should act with moral aptitude and I'm not afraid to stress that using whatever means are at my disposal, but I target those responsible rather than generalising and drawing undue attention to the largely innocent lower echelons, i.e. those poor souls on the show stand or front office who have to deal with the the sh*t that rolls down from on high.
If you decide a whole company is to blame then you can never deal with the problem, if you want to stop an army shoot the General.

Re: Admittedly

Tried that by letter, but he was away from the office. Never did reply personally which is a breach of membership of the GISC but when this was pointed out not even the courtesy of a reply.

I'll go to the show and do it verbally!

Cheers

Wear a Sandwich Board!!

As a district manager for a car company that sold on quality and reliability, I had to face many novel ways of complaining from aggrieved customers - from setting fire to their cars outside a dealership downwards

So when a branch of a computer company refused to replace a laptop that failed within 24 hours, I created a makeshift sandwich board - the message was the ****** Computers are c**p - and walked up and down outside their store in Birmingham while my daughter stood by the counter and talked loudly about the Sale of Goods (Implied Terms) Act etc etc. On reflection, my poster should have been more objective!!

Wear a suit and look terribly middle-class.

...it got the message over without the need to give out leaflets. They threatened to call the police but I got the computer replaced.

... and of course no one can stop you on the pavement outside LBS
