Sailing the oceans on BP Tankers...Sailing the oceans on Shel Tankers ...
My 5-year old sister saved our family that day - my heavily pregnant mother took her and my brother to Summerland for the day. They were having a lovely time until my sister started complaining she was hot and itchy and wanted to leave - she's never been a whinger, so my mother took them home. Between leaving Douglas and getting home to Peel the fire broke out - it was almost certainly spreading in the walls when my sister started complaining.Summer holiday in the Isle of Man which had been delayed by the fire the previous year
We were due to travel the day after the fire but the ferry was cancelled. It was supposed to be a 25th anniversary for my mum and dad, they met there in 1948My 5-year old sister saved our family that day - my heavily pregnant mother took her and my brother to Summerland for the day. Leaving the ship to return home on leave, thing was this was at a time when the Arab States were running a fuel embargo on the United States and we sailed to Freeport in the Bahamas.
It was just before Christmas and unfortunately due to the embargo I couldn't be flown out for two weeks, terrible shame being stuck there and then moved to Nassau, then to New York for a few days and then home.
