What were you doing in 1974?

Rebuilding my second-hand Senior 31 which I could only afford as it was a real mess with a rotten timber superstructure. Looking back I paid well over it's worth but then boats were expensive back then.
Did get her finished though!

1974? Mostly crapping myself and gurgling at the sheer fun of it 😁

Give it another few years and I shall no doubt revert

1974? Starting the last year at Inverness high school.
Catching Hebridean ferries from Lochmaddy to Uig to go to school was no fun in a big storm...

Mind you at least Caly Mac had reliable ferries to run then.

Summer holiday in the Isle of Man which had been delayed by the fire the previous year
My 5-year old sister saved our family that day - my heavily pregnant mother took her and my brother to Summerland for the day. They were having a lovely time until my sister started complaining she was hot and itchy and wanted to leave - she's never been a whinger, so my mother took them home. Between leaving Douglas and getting home to Peel the fire broke out - it was almost certainly spreading in the walls when my sister started complaining.
I was born three weeks later.

We were due to travel the day after the fire but the ferry was cancelled. It was supposed to be a 25th anniversary for my mum and dad, they met there in 1948

Well someone had to !! :D

Leaving the ship to return home on leave, thing was this was at a time when the Arab States were running a fuel embargo on the United States and we sailed to Freeport in the Bahamas.
It was just before Christmas and unfortunately due to the embargo I couldn't be flown out for two weeks, terrible shame being stuck there and then moved to Nassau, then to New York for a few days and then home.
Beat that Shell boy! :geek:

Was sent out to join ship in Trinidad in '75 .. Ship had change of orders and we stayed in really plush hotel on mainstreet. Agent was told by Shell to look after us and supplied car with driver to tour the island. We were there for 6 days - car always outside waiting for whatever we wanted to see / do.
Then we (there were three of us) .. were flown nto New Orleans to join the ship in New Orleans ... we had 3 days in NO waiting ship. Joined - sailed to Curacao to load ... then via Panama Canal to Honolulu where a slow discharge allowing us shore time ... Waikiki Beach etc.
