A mystery. 53cms wide, 11 cm deep, 50 cm high. There are three other liferaft stowage positions, and it wasn’t the boarding ladder - I’ve identified that!

Liferaft seems most likely, despite the other positions available - maybe someone changed their mind over time?

Otherwise, perhaps a Lifesling?

Thanks everyone. All good thoughts, but the fenders are much bigger and in the lazarette with the warps and the emergency tiller, the lifebuoys are just out of shot and I don't think she ever had dive stuff aboard. Its lifesling shaped but a lifesling can go on the guard wires..

The boat is an ex Joint Services Nic 55. As built she carried two six man valise liferafts, one in each cockpit locker, but later, probably when rebuilt to comply with Code 0, she acquired a big stainless cradle on the foredeck presumably for a big canister.

How are people at identifying the species of mushrooms growing on the pushpit and on the big stainless pole?

GPS, AIS, and... ?? Half height dipole for VHF? EPIRB in float free mount? Two to go...

Ask John Morris of this parish and another land based one in Surrey(?) he will have sailed a few miles in one of these JSSC boats methinks, maybe even this one. Lovely one she is too.
