With mobile phones being pocket sized computers nowadays it would be interesting to know what kind of phone apps you use, If any for boating.

The ones i use are as follows:

Navionics,
RYA SafeTrx,
Met office,
Vessel finder (AIS)
What3Word,
GPS Coordinates (App)
Anchor alarm.

Do any of you use any of these listed and do you find them useful?

Are there any more apps that you use?

Be nice to hear your thoughts and ideas. (y)

I enjoy sailing which includes turning the pages of an almanac or a pilot book, looking over charts, watching the barometer and keeping a look out, always with binoculars and a hand bearing compass to hand. Part of my routine for putting to sea includes turning the phone off. I do have a MFD, though.

I can relate to that though i really must find and download a decent anchor alarm

What's a MFD?
Multi Function Display, the in-vogue new word for Chart Plotter with AIS & Radar etc. Mine adds to my sailing pleasure as it allows me to select music choice from the cockpit without the additional hassle of having to go below ?

I prefer stress-free sailing so that generally excludes the obsessive, compulsive need for a smart phone.

I use a tablet on board but have the apps on my phone as well for backup.
I use:
Marine Navigator (as my chart plotter)
Absolute Tides
Anchor Watch Pro
PocketGrib
Marine Traffic, but not while on board as i have an AIS receiver
RYA SafeTrx, but only to enter my vessel details and emergency contact details

I have a few weather apps on my phone that are used along with an AIS one to see a detailed picture of a vessel that my boat AIS has picked up quite a few miles away. Like a few others I refer to my almanac for tide times and use charts for passage planning and the plotter for where I am actually at.
The phone is always on for family and friends to ring though whether I answer is something else!
