My cabin floor is covered in stuck down cork.

After 20 years it is still good, but I feel I should give it a coat of something

What, and something that doesn't turn into a skating rink when wet?

We had that for something like 15 years on a liveaboard yacht. Got fed up with it, scraped it all off and put deck veneer on. Looks masses better.

Buy marine some carpet ? Or just cheap rubber backed carpet from high street retailer and replace it more regularly ? There are posts on this site on teak effect carpet of course which might be worth a look.

I found cork tiles began to fragment and become a mess after a few years hard use; pried them off - which wasn't a five minute job - then put down mahogany & holly splines, I suppose it's just a part of the ongoing ownership and continual upgrading of a boat; I wouldn't recommend anyone start with glued down cork now, as mentioned waterproof carpet like ' Floatex ' ( sp ? I've seen it available at out of town ' carpet right ' type places ) would be a lot warmer for bare feet and more durable too.

You say it still looks good and want something to protect it?

I'd go with Dulux water based Diamond Glaze floor varnish. Many on here use it (including myself). As long as the cork is not too bouncy, I don't see why it would not seal your floor nicely. Easy to apply and dries in a couple of hours.

Johnstones also do their own version which I have used, good stuff and cheaper but no less effective that Dulux
