What teak ?

I'm having a step made for the helm of my S450. It will be made primarily from teak with s/s legs. I would like to match the teak of the main deck. Is there a common teak used for marine decking ? And where could I source a relatively small quantity. Thanks

Teak decking is normally quarter sawn solid teak. There is some variation in colour depending on whether it is old forest grown wood or newer plantation grown, and where it comes from the log. For a good choice of small pieces try KJ Howells in Cobbs Quay, Poole, but obviously if you want to try and match the natural colour you will have to visit with a sample of your current teak such as a locker lid. However once teak has weathered a bit the natural colour differences tend to disappear.
