Heard a pan pan for a 40'+ power boat aground off Ryde (falling tide by that stage). Seemed to be having difficulty radioing the police launch which stood by.

I can't remember a busier weekend on the radio in the Solent.
On Saturday I personally saw two yachts aground on the Brambles and saw a helicopter winching the crew off a 40 footer which the coastguard warned was sinking.

On Sunday I heard a distorted report being radioed in of a 40 ft Bavaria inverted and drifting down the Solent. I'm not convinced of the authenticity of this, however since it didn't seem to be followed up by anyone else.

By the way, given it's location and, more importantly, how many boats run into trouble there, why isn't the Brambles Bank more clearly marked?

I suspect that there is an assumption that sailors can navigate.

I guess some yachtsmen do end up paying their dues - if only to the local marine industry who replace their keels !

Oooooooo...

I pay my dues to the Port Authority - do yachtsmen not have to do this in the Solent? Must be the only thing they don't pay for!!
