Now then might well be getting well ahead of myself here, :) call it excitement  but I've been on the internet looking at various "toys" things for my new boat

It is currently fitted with Raymarine E80, Raymarine Radar & Raymarine Autopilot. These I want to upgrade and was reading JFM's much earlier post re his E120 (he seems to like his toys :) ) whilst I appreciate the seriousness of such equipment on board but being a bit of a gadget man can anyone recommend what else would or could be installed ....

I'm already started on the Sat TV system (any suggestions, it will be berthed in Cabopino near Marbella) and looking at an upgraded music system on board...

Can anyone make suggestions I can use all the help I can get..... (Will also give me something to look into at the Boat show next month....)

The raymarine E series kit is actually pretty good, and you'd be spending unnecessarily to upgrade it - but if you really want to, then the logical upgrade step would be to E120 widescreen, if it'll fit (it will be very tight if does). Again, under the heading of changing stuff for the sake of it, you could add a reversing camera (really not needed on a T40!), trade the analogue radar for digital, and you could also add a digital fishfinder. A simpler upgrade would be to replace your E80 for an E120 (non widescreen). Also, if your autopilot is non-gyro then adding the gyro unit will make a big difference apparently (I haven't done this yet but it is on my list this winter).

Sat tv: the biggest problem with doing this on a T40 is where to locate the dome, without causing a prob with the radar. If you find an elegant solution to this I'd love to hear about it because I can't figure it out.

Audio: this one I can definitely help with - I've installed the Fusion ipod system on mine, head unit in the saloon, Alpine marine amp and 10" alpine sub under the helm seat, two alpine 7" speakers in the radar arch, and two more in the dash. Fusion remotes at helm and sunpad. Works very well, all installed by Sextons in Southampton, although the speaker pods were custom fabricated by a plastics specialist in hove, and then gelcoated by the grp specialist in Brighton marina.

Cheers
Jimmy

a life-raft and some decent lifejackets with crotch straps - dull but maybe useful if it all goes a bit wrong. Have a look at your fire extinguishers too.

Id say a good woman that can cook, clean the whole boat, be social, look after you all on a boys weekend and keep quiet when asked!

Seriously the t 40s dash isnt big enough for lots of toys.

For the med you will want aircon id say 2 unit min and a nice generator to run the units and ice makers etc, make sure its genset is well on top of its kva output/load and spec onen thats 1500rpm so its nice and quiet when your anchored up.

A good bimini cover and plenty of suncream at hand.

Thanks Volvopaul, currently it has a Onan 4 KVA Generator on board but I have already talked about upgrading this for a 7kW Onan generator Do you think this is suffice or do I need something bigger ? As I will be in the med I want to be able to run the aircon when I am out and about will this generator suffice or should I look at something else ????

As for the woman I got me one these past 30 years, not quite mastered her yet but live in hope one day ? :)

There a lot to this Boat eh ?

Overall noise, vibration and resonance is they key to a happy time when thegenny is deployed, a nice 1500 rpm 4kv set will be fine if its up to runnin g what you thow at it.

But yes a nice 7kw 1500 rpm set would be better although it will be heavier andtake up more room, the t40s engine bay will be no problem, just drop it in the middle at the front of both engines. If its the t40 at swanwicks yard ill take a look at it next time im down, my boats just 100yds away across the river. Get quotes for all work you want doing, maybe give me a chance for servicing and genny fitting if you like.
