You have just left The Solent at the start of the ebb, with a full set of sails up and a nice N3 giving you a pleasant beam reach to Studland. You plan to get there at about 7 in the evening with the idea of anchoring up for the night.

As you pass North Head buoy you ask your partner to nip down below to fix up a heart starter to make the most of the trip. At this point you hear over the VHF that Banks Inn is offering half price beer until 6:30. You are tempted to put the engine on to get there ahead of schedule to take advantage of the offer. You know that your McGregor will plane at 20 knots, but you could suffer the ridicule of your fellow YC members who you have just seen off the port bow. What do you do next skip?

no problem, you phone BAnks, order 60 pints pay by credit card and collect on arrival. Have you got a motoring cone?

Run a second forestay and inner Jib - hoist out the widow-maker and flying asymmetric jib - hoist the spanker - add preventers aloft and a-low - hoist whisker poles - fly a skyscraper. Start the water and diesel over the side - remove all unnecesary equipment. Arrive at 1832 and convince landlord his clock is wrong.

Flog the McGregor and buy a multihull.

Sod that - flog the boat and move next to The Banks Arms! Have you tried running up that path to catch last orders? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can't see why I'd bother .... the club beer is so cheap it's not worth going to the pub .... so you should've got a couple in before you left....

blow tanks & out engines.
