What marine stands boats on soil .

Hi, we changed the rudder on a dehler 36' at Suffolk yacht harbour. We asked them to park the boat over a ditch that runs at the back of the hard standing giving us enough drop height. You may need wellies when working at the back.
Thanks Bob , I'm in contact with them , they very helpful , I'm sure they be able to help

I dropped the rudder and stock out of my bilge keel Leisure 20 years ago by getting two burly mates to pull the bow to the ground which lifted the stern high enough to slide the whole thing out.

We did wait 'till the yard staff had packed up and gone home for the day though... :)

Hi Vic you may find this bavariayacht.org/forum/index.php/topic,3659.0.html particularly the second page where Mark describes how he dropped his rudder and replaced it. The key is being able to tap into the top of the stock to put in the eye bolt then you can prepare everything while still in the water and drop the rudder when the boat is lifted. Refitting is the reverse when you launch.

The last time I did it was on my Dufour 385 and you could easily get to the top and see what your doing,
which was good as although the boat was only three years old the bolts holding the quadrant where solid, I had to cut them out and the pin bolt that goes through the whole lot took some bashing to get out.
We did this to copper coat the top of the rudder , if I knew before hand I wouldn't had bothered just for the bit on top .

This one isn't going to be so easy ,
You need to get into a very small locker and before you can all the pilot hydraulic have to be removed and shore power box as well as a RCD .

Once in there hardly any room to swing a cat ,
so if anything seized and you need to bash about it's going to be hell.
Not a job I'm looking forward to doing with my back .

But there was quite a bit of side play when I hauled out before buying the boat and although it feels OK sailing with no noticeable problem , it as to be done.
