good stopovers/ anchorage places in rivers eh!

Rivers

Deben at the 'Rocks' and the 'Tips' - run the boat up onto beach and go for walks, sunbathing, picnic etc

Medway in 'Colemouth Creek', 'Stangate Creek', 'Lower Halstow' (against wall)

Teign at 'Coombe Cellars' run aground and go ashore for walks, local pub, and 'Hackney Marshes' jetty go for walks and local pub on riverside

all above really quiet out of season or busy week end, and mainly no 'Jin Palaces' about

Except one other crewed by six nubile ladies, sunbathing au naturel who invite me over to dine.

Actually thinking about it I recall hearing somewhere recently that they've stopped telling boats to anchor elsewhere now. To be honest it's been years since I've had the chance to try it.

tbh I wouldn't like to see unlimited anchoring in Helford River. The pool above the moorings is a wonderful playground and it would be a shame if it became an obstacle course with too many anchored or moored boats. Helford would start to look like Salcombe where anywhere that doesn't dry out is chock full of moored or anchored boats.

But I would like to know what the latest official view is - reports seem to be conflicting. In particular, whether anchoring in the upper reaches (above river from the oysters, one assumes) is OK or not.

Interesting to read about anchorages to the east and south.

There are NO good anchorages in Pembrokeshire. So don't bother visiting. It's definitely not worth the hassle.

Try up north instead.

I must be the only one that likes a few, not too close, boats about in a rode with a reasonable view and ideally a pub or restaurant within tender distance.

I've anchored in 10s of deserted anchorages and whilst there is a certain charm of the wild I like people more than I like solitude.

I tend to agree with you.

It maybe the pessimist in me.

When I'm the only one in a deserted anchorage I think "What's up with this place - what do other people know that I don't?"

You should try Orient Bay, St. Martin. Loadsa naked ladies! Also a beach bar and a restaurant to wine and dine as nature intended.

Also lanzarote, papayagayo beaches but the water is still rather chilly so one runs the risk of pink walnut whip effect.

If you want a 'Ive been there' t shirt, the Tobago Cays are awesome.

For solitude, any of the islands off the north of Venezuela.

I'd go for that! And preferably no ancient abandoned ground tackle either!

My idea of a perfect achorage probably would have otters swimming about late evening, mackerel coming in with the tide, and not too much kelp on bottom. Though having said that , provided it's pretty quiet, big kelp is not too bad for staying put!
Outside of Kintyre there are places I know of like that

And hopefully nobody else will appear close by and cross my anchor chain!!

I like the odvious... Good space, total shelter, decent holding.... And if possible 28 degree water.... Another important thing is a good sunset and sunrise...

Sometimes it can be fun to have some entertainment... Sometimes solitude. Good shore access for the dink is important as well... I hate a muddy shore...
