What kind of wood

Hi from the enclosed photos, which I hope have worked, can anybody identify the wood used to plank my Lymington Scow?

Looking at pic 3, almost certainly larch. Definitely softwood and not mahogany or teak or iroko planks. Douglas fir (British Columbian Pine) is possible but unlikely.

I'd go with larch as well.

yup, its Larch

in the process of stripping the paint off a 50 foot boats worth!

I think that the planking is spruce. The boat looks as if she were built between the wars.

Looks like larch to me too. Columbian Pine/Douglas Fir would be closer grained. Spruce would be too expensive.

In any event, if you need to replace planking, larch will do.

Check with the class association. The IoW has many Scow varients and a thriving Scow community.
