What items from another 'activity' have you found use for on boat ?

Petrol, firmly applied with a rag, cleans light rust stains on metalwork.
Car vacuum cleaner, useful to remove ants, any creepy crawlies.
Toothpaste, useful to clean stains on fibreglass.
Self sealing plastic bags, as issued by the banks for the use of customers, to keep very small bits visible.
Washing up brushes, with natural bristles, to scrub bilges, engine room floors, etc.,
Fridge magnets tied ti string to retrieve small metal objects from akward places.
Plasticine picks up grit in akward corners, nooks and crannies.
Old Spark Plugs as fishing weights.
Small narrow clear plastic contaners with screw on caps, as used in hospitals and clinics to keep blood or urine samples, to store sailmakers needles.
Red nail polish, VERY THINLY APPLIED to dim the light on binnacle.
Bubble wrap, useful for wrapping and storing delicate items in lockers.

Old 3 inch paint brush gaffer taped to a 12 inch stick, very useful for sweeping up dust from tight spaces (and gently).

Tea towel rail = stainless steel grab handle - errrr, ok a bit of the wrong way round for this thread :o But it was exactly the right size and shape. and will never fall off

Tesco - A £5 cheap & thin 100% man made fibre single bed cover, makes a great "take the chill off" blanket, when having a day time kip. or a very good sleeping bag extra cover. Dries out easily, packs up small. Wish I had bought another - no Tesco over here :(

B & Q - 2 drawer trolley, fits down the 1/4 berth (no cushion) and simply wheels out for access when needed (full of "extra" tools).

Sitting & staring at stuff that needs fixing or refurb - very cheap :p sometimes the thinking even comes up with a good approach that saves money. sometimes not

Fed up with oilies / jackets / allsorts clooging up the access from saloon to fwd cabin ... ? If anything like my boat - they are bulky and hang into that access so you push past them.
Simple answer ... take old wardrobe and remove hanger rail and the two clip holders at ends ... screw clip holders to either side of hanging locker ... cut hanger rail to length and then clip in to hold those jackets out of the way ... want a jacket ? lift out rail ... take jacket ... put rail back.

Trouble getting that bit out of the long undercockpit storage space called a bunk ? Kitchen baskets ..... thread line through each side of baskets connecting 2, 3 or 4 together ... fill first one ... push into bunk space, fill next ... push that and first in ... and so on. Once last one filled - quick knot ends of line together so when you pull out nearest basket - it pulls the others to you as well in turn .. being a line through etc. - means you can remove baskets with ease instead of if you did with cable ties you're stuck with baskets hanging out !!
