I'm replacing my webasto air heater as it packed up.

Tracing back the fuel pipe I couldn't find a fuel pump.

But there is a short fuel line from the main tank to this box. From there to the Webasto unit. No pump that I can see.

I'm loath to start opening and removing it if I don't need to.

Anyone know what it is, how it works, do I need to bypass it to fit the new unit's pump?

It’s a very long time since I looked at ours but from what I remember the pump for the Webasto line was just a very small unit mounted in-line in the feed, somewhere near the tank.

The star head screws you mention may be called “torx” if you go to buy them.

Googling “torx” will confirm if they are the “star head” screws on your box.

You describe the screws as "star" head. You may need a special screw driver. You can get kits for tamper proof screws on ebay. . . .

I bought a screwdriver for star head (torx) screws from a supermarket (medium sized Tesco) only yesterday.

From the utilitarian look of the OP's box, it seems most unlikely that it would have special security screws.

Beware of E-bay descriptions. I've seen "tamperproof" applied to anything that isn't a slot or a cross head. I take it to mean Hex or Torx with a pin in the centre.

No sympathy from me for anyone who doesn't have a set like this.!

Screwfix or toolstation used to do a draper set like that. Just looked, and now not listed, so maybe ebay.

Found it useful until you come to one screw that is deeply recessed ....

I had at least one set previously. That's currently on the boat when I needed one at home. I've got fed up with it always being at the other place from wherever it's needed. I believe I have another set somewhere, but heaven knows where. Hence I bought another.

So I have a least two sets, almost certainly three, maybe even more. Life being what it is, now I have so many, and once I've finished the immediate job (fixing blown tail light bulb, since you ask) I may well never need one again.

I might even die from tripping over a surplus multi-head screwdriver set lying around! 😁

I find three is about the right number ;) .

Yes, I'm hoping when I open the box with a torx bit it'll reveal all.

Not. Much space to get a screwdriver in. Perhaps a torx bit and a smallish socket & driver.
