This was on the boat. The owners notes mention a handy billy but I am pretty sure this isn’t one. It’s heavy duty. To give you an idea of scale the rope is 18mm. It’s a 36 foot 8 ton boat

A handy billy for lifting the engine out. Keep it safe as you might need it one day. Use it between the fork lift and the engine . Just need to find the lower block and rope.This was on the boat. Thanks, that makes senseI suspect it might be part of a DIY MOB recovery kit.
The short strop goes over the boom and clips on to the snap shackle.
Somewhere on board you should find the other double block with another snapshackle or strop, and a length of 10mm-ish line to complete the purchase .
It would make more sense to me if the block was attached to the eye on the other end of the rope.
Yep, that’s why I think post 11 has it rightExactly ... why is the rope spliced to the same point as the snap shackle ? Makes no sense ... unless intention is to loop rope round something and then back to snap shackle.
