Here in Guernsey one can check ones boat ie mooring lines bilges dry etc but we cant use them!!!!!
We cant use exercise time to clean, polish or maintain the boat.
We cant go for a run or fishing.
What is the state where you are?

Marinas are 'shut' to berthholders, but contractors can do work on boats. Some have used exercise trips to check boats.

I could walk from home to the boat but do not do so as it doesn't seem right. I have been out walking most days from the house for about an hour, including the usual route past the marina. I can quite see my boat on this route due to trees obscuring the view and one footpath has been closed due to allow the grass to recover and not yet re-opened .

The garden at home is gradually starting to look improved and have done a bit of DIY painting on the house - no rush as need to spin out the work as long as possible. The windows and doors on the house are also gradually receiving a thorough clean up . Much of the time spent doing the garden and house would have been spent on the boat.

Meanwhile my day job continues , working from home, and has been quite busy.

While out waking I have seen a few people going for a run . I have cleaned up a bicycle we have had a while and little used and it looks quite smart so may go for a spin around the village.

Noticed one chap fishing on the river even though its the closed season.

Otherwise the birds, the fish and other wildlife must think its great not being disturbed nearly so much by traffic/aircraft/boats and human beings.

My car has not needed refuelling for about a month. I did do a few miles to pick up a prescription and obtain the medication last Saturday . The car hasn't since moved and looks very clean. i would ordinarily have been travelling for meetings but they have all been done by online conference call with no real issues and in fact that aspect has been a better use of peoples time. Not to mention saving several people driving 200 miles and reducing pollution. I do hope this is one aspect of work that will continue.

The wife's car is more or less mothballed. The wife was staying away from other people a couple of weeks before it became a requirement.

We have not seem the inside of a supermarket for more than a month as have arranged home deliveries not only from supermarkets but also local suppliers.

We are receiving large size photos from Haslar to show all is well plus photos from livabords showing the weed growing on the hull. I would share if this site permitted me to attach file.

Boat at Lymington, we closed down our business on 23rd March ( hardware /garden retail) as it felt uncomfortable for the staff as we were very busy . Went down to the boat in the afternoon and ran engines and genny , cleared out fridges and generally checked all over. Not seen it since . BTW does anyone else think the weather is taking the absolute piss out of us at the moment whilst we can't use our boats ? , not a big deal in the current circumstances though.

My I ask, without seeming to sound critical . Why didn't you just adapt? eg ask the customers to wait outside while you bring the goods to them ? Or set up an order online or by phone and local delivery service ?

If there's one thing people need now its something to keep them occupied .
A bit of DIY and a bit of gardening fits with those requirement.

Interesting Martyn. As I said in the other thread on the subject I don’t think you have an issue checking your boat occaisionaly when it can be incorporated in your daily exercise from home. Refreshing, though, to see a conscientious approach - getting utterly fed up with local Facebook groups and people trying to rationalise what is clearly not acceptable when it comes to boating in the current circumstances.

We put it to the staff and they preferred to be on furlough as we are customer service focused and it meant a lot of close contact. We are having things put in place to have a soft opening soon and i think the public are now taking things much more seriously ( social distancing).

Social distancing is going to be long term - it seems .
A reasonable charge for local delivery could be the new ''normal' and could be good for everyone and also good for re environment.

Toolstation are (or were) doing click and collect - they bring the goods out to you.

Boat in Sutton Harbour, Plymouth. Marina effectively shut apart from essential work by contractors, and then only with approval from the marina.

I walked by her last Tuesday all ok mate .

Salcombe harbour completely closed for leisure use. Only movements allowed are by fishermen and from remote habitations to obtain essentials. No owners working on laid up boats or by contractors on their behalf.

Harbour staff are providing essential health and safety cover and routine harbour patrols. Additionally, if requested, they will check your specific boat on its mooring.

We have glimpses of the upper estuary from where we live, and our walks can take us to creek edges. There really is nothing going on here.

My boat is in Peterhead, and we are not allowed to use the boat, but can visit to do checks and can maintenance, but the boat must remain tied up, and we must maintain social distancing. That said traveling to the boat would of course be prohibated. For me its no big deal, i took the boat out of the water a week before this all kicked off, expecting it to be out of the water for a week or so. Now it will be late May before i can get it back into the water, but so be it. I would be wanting to visit for checks had it been in the Marina, if only once a month or so, but i am 30 minutes away so probably not really allowed.

I’ve had a bit of a nightmare with this! I ordered an XO 270 Front Cabin in January after months of research on Targa, Nimbus, Axopar and even Rafnar hulls. Working closely with the dealer we specced the boat with some juicy gear (including twin Merc 250hp and joystick control, radar, searchlight etc) and submitted it in order to get the boat by mid-March latest.

Things started to get tense when the boat had still not left the factory in early March - I had planned to sail her down from North Wales to Falmouth over 3 days and booked time off with 2 friends, including accommodation in Neyland and Penzance for stop-overs starting on March 18.

The boat finally arrived in the UK on 14 March just as the Coronavirus pandemic was really starting - Poland locked down the day after the boat left and I thought we’d just about got through in time. But then in sea trials a fuel pump issue was identified.

To cut a long and emotional story short the 18th came around and we couldn’t go to Wales to get it and from that day on we’ve been under lockdown so it remains secured up there and I still haven’t seen Blackfin, my pride and joy!

(Also, the dealer’s offer to transport it to Falmouth for delivery was stymied by the fact that all lifting facilities at Falmouth, Mylor and other boatyards have been suspended so there’s no way to get it off the trailer!)

That's not fun. However, when you do eventually get it out plenty of pictures please.
