What is the most expensive thing you have dropped overboard?

I ask as I can start the bidding with an iPhone 3GS - fell out of my pocket when leaving the boat. I would have liked to salvage the SIM but I couldn't find a shop that sells magnets :(

You have my heartfelt sympathies, over the years Neptune's lost property box has done well out of me: Phones, PDAs, drills, spanners, you name it.

There was also the well documented case of the missing prop shaft!

The sea gives, and it generally does not give back that which you do not keep it a buttoned pocket. :(

most expensive.....hmmmmm

my wife went overboard once, she has cost me thousands over the years...........

oh do you mean things that you didnt have a duty to, or couldnt recover? ;)

You guys :D

If SWMBO had gone overboard I would have had to have jumped in anyway not because I would have needed to but because if I didn't life wouldn't be worth living ;)

As I watched my phone elegantly descend into the murk I realized it was history and didn't think about diving in after it.

Yes me too it was the wife, though she wasnt the wife then............. though she still came back for more, and is mrsvolvopaul now.

Her phone and other bits are at the bottom of the Lymington River!!

SWMBO let go of a boathook once, but we got it back. I lost some change out of my pocket once too, but got it all back when the tide receded.

I don't recall anything going over the side that I didn't recover, but we have rescued boats, balloons, beach balls, footballs, fenders, buckets and a complete windsurfer rig.

Ohh, I've just remembered, the cap off the navel pipe went over the side in deep water when its lanyard broke but I can't find a replacement anywhere - just use the bottom of a plastic milk bottle now. And a winch handle 15 years ago. But nothing exciting.

Anchors.

Three of them.

All Deltas.

Generally speaking, people use line, chain, or a combination therof to retreive them.

Not me!
