What is the future of motor boating?

But do you think they will? And when? And where will all the electricity come from?

Not disagreeing with you, you may well be right, but I still suspect that demand for diesel will be strong for a very long time yet.
It won’t be easy and it won’t be quick. We will have to increase our electricity generation capacity a lot, but not as much as you might think because vehicles can charge at night when there is spare capacity.

We have increased our wind power generation from 1% to 19% of demand in just 10 years. We could easily do the same again and then again if needed. We have done sweet F.A. to exploit our massive tidal potential, which could be equally as big as wind. That would change if we cared a bit less about wading birds being happy and dolphins getting bruised by turbines. Then you can add in more nuclear and solar too. I haven’t mentioned wave and geothermal.

Storage is a huge issue. It might double power costs. We can keep our gas capacity until batteries fall further if we don’t want to pay the cost.

No, I dont, but they will try and its that trying that will force change.

The only way to viably hit those targets is to provide artificial fuels.

Many people will not accept a forced change to their lifestyles, you can ban petrol & diesel cars and any fossil fuel for heating and ban flying, imports etc.
But at the very next election a party promising to undo all those changes will be elected... (maybe farage has a future after all)
Electric cars will be accepted when they're better than the alternative. Governments will only ban petrol/diesel cars when people stop buying them.

The only way forward is new technology to improve peoples lives, anything else will be rejected.
Fuel prices can be increased to a point to make these new technologies cost competitive, but only to the point where the poorest family can afford them.

Any thoughts on the chances of retaining derogation on a fuel only able to be used by a tiny proportion of the community to enjoy a hobby. ?

Britons will remain subject to rulings of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) even if the UK leaves the EU on October 31. .. .
