By the way we also have the World's longest pencil and the UK's oldest handstitched quilt

Ahh, but they ARE just the kind of things I would expect to turn up in a shed in Cumbria. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Having spent the last 30 years worth of weekends in boats, caravans and tents around Windermere-usually in the rain-I can't believe I have missed these iconic attractions. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I was very suprised by the answer, not the kind of record breaker you would expect to turn up in a shed in cumbria.

[/ QUOTE ]Is business slow Phil? Trying to attract a few more visitors? By the way, my brother (who took the video I posted the other day and helped with Serendipity's launch) lives a few miles from you and works even nearer!

Closed for total refurb?? Great pity, was going to take my Fiancee up to have a look, I love steam powered boats! Especially on windermere!
Might have even tried to book with you!!!
Mind you, you may not have accepted us!

What you need to do is come up in August (12th - 17th) for the Steam Boat Association Rally. They are based at the Windermere MotorBoat Racing Club and cruise the lake daily.
We have a friend brings his boat up 3 times a year and usually manage a couple of cruises with him.

Theres a damn good idea!! I think I will plan to do that, something about steam laumnches!! I must be an anorak or summat. Used to live in Preston, drive up to "the lakes" all the time, climbing in Langdale! Still have a soft spot for there!

Nope. We are full.
The quilt and of course the World's Largest topiary garden are at http://www.levenshall.co.uk

I know this - it's because it's THIRD time you've posted the question about "what is this boat", each time as though it's the first time, and thereby proving you are losing your marbles.

It's the first time I've posted this, so you are either prone to false déja vu or have indeed lost your own marbles. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Or I've developed Groundhog Day Syndrome.

Re: Deja groundhog day all over again, repeated.

ah , but to be fair , he knows people like me can't remember what I said 24 hours ago so a few months , well , I ask yer /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

If we had spent the £40 mil on a museum for those boats, I could under stand it, but for the collection housed in that thing called a building in Falmouth, is still beyond me.

I remember the story! She was recovered from Ullswater by one Jerry Jackson of Furness Barnch BSAC in 1963 and passed on to George Pattinson on Windermere for restoration and exhibition. I was involved with the magazine "Diver" at the time. I have the article if anyone's interested, including a pic of the boat as she was raised from the bottom.

Re: Deja groundhog day all over again, repeated.

Good spot. But as the editor's maxim goes.
