I have recently bought a 21-22 ft sailing cruiser built in 1964.
The main sail has a black ball with a white 4 over 21. I am hoping some one will know what class of boat that this represents. So I can work out what the make and model of the boat actually is

Perhaps not surprisingly your boat is a "Four Twenty One", the name derived from it being a 4-berth 21 footer. They were quite popular in the 60's so there should be quite a few around but there doesn't seem to be any information on the web or an owners association, etc. I can't really remember but have a vague feeling it may have been designed by Robert Tucker and to have been built, at least for some time, in Christchurch in Dorset.

I think that they were built by Robert Ives in Christchurch in the 60's and 70's and designed by him. A tubby little boat, twin keeled if I remember right, and very solid. The GRP in those days tended to be thicker and stronger than today.

Now you say "Robert Ives" that sounds right to me too!
