list of tools is really dependent on the level of expertise of you and your crew. It does need to be rasonably comprehensive as you dont have the AA in the middle of the channel!
You need to make sure that the tools are made frome chrome vanaium otherwise they will rust badly.
I reckon beibg a set which contains 90% of your needs is a good start, and a couple of weeks ago Lidl had such a kit for not very much money.
you then need to add the extras that make it suitable for your boat, e.g. spark plugs, sparesfuses, insulating tape, duck tape, araldite etc.

nope - tool shed is where the tool boxes go during the week. They get shifted on to the boat with me when I go aboard.....and off again Sunday night!

Easy !
Can of WD40 and a roll of duct tape.
If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD40
If it does move and it shouldn't, wrap it up in duct tape.

You can leave those out. One decent quality Round Tuit will cover those and more.

Nobody seems to have mentioned a 12volt soldering kit, if you are able to solder then it can be very useful. I have used mine a number of times. Good luck, George

I have a 150 piece tool kit from Halfords, some screwdrivers, pliers, mole grips, hammers and a couple of levers on board.
The suitcase style of the tool kit is excellent for storing on boats, I started on a 21ft boat with this and it does most things.
I'ts all too easy to suggest huge lists of tools, but one thing I'd say is only buy a tool kit that you can use, don't go daft and buy loads of things you can't/dont know how to use, that's just a waste of money.

hated my 12v soldering iron, tried three or four and didnt find one I liked. I then tried gas soldering irons, and kept burning out the ceramic gauze - cause I like a hot tip!.
When the last one went, instead of buying another gas or 12v one, I save a lot of money by buying a 150watt inverter, and using one of my spare 240v soldering irons.

Gadzooks me thinks you maligne him!. One needs to know about 'Mantling' and drapery otherwise, how is one going to know what is the proper way to hang ones chintz, around ones Irish Coat of Arms using only a hammer to fix it to the bulk head ? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Carry what you like, it does not matter, you always need the tool/spare that you have not got. Something to do with that sod Murphys's law.
However I have generaly found the reverse to be true - If you carry it you will not need it.
Consequently I have virtualy a spare engine in bits as spares and enough tools to rebuild it.
