when i listening to my vhf i commonly here lifeboats being told to use channel 0 where do you access this channel or what do they mean.

Its not for all rescue services, they have to be approved before they can use it otherwise they use 67. Also if the coastguard are casulty working on 0 any other operations will also go on 67.

Hope that helps.

Stu is exactly right - Ch0 is a Coastguard private channel, which may, on successful declaration, be fitted to other rescue craft. It is also the main frequency for CG vehicles, and it carries the paging signal in many areas.
That's why non declared services, e.g. Venturers in the Solent, do not have Ch0. For anyone else with it, it is an offense to use or act upon information heard via it.

You will find it very difficult/impossible to buy a Marine VHF with 00

Joe Public can't but if you have authorisation th the dealer/distributor can programme ch 0 or for that matter any private channel into a set.
