What is a High Thrust outboard?

[ QUOTE ]
Thanks everyone - it makes perfect sense to me now. I suppose in the ideal world a 15hp High Thrust engine would be best - but Yam don't make one!

Time to hunt out a new 9.9HT.

Thanks again,

Simon

Got home tonite an some prick has stolen mine today, barstard. I'm now looking for one as well.

I can recommend the Mariner 15HP Bigfoot outboard. I have one on our 14 foot day boat and it is excellent. At low speeds it is very quiet.

Loads of power. I tested this during the winter when a heavy 30 foot wooden motor cruiser was being pushed sideways by a strong flow of floodwater. He had secured his stern lines but the bow had swung through 90 degrees away from his bow mooring buoy. I shoved my bow against the side of his, applied loads of power and managed to shove his bow back to the mooring buoy.

In addition to the big prop it has a beefier than standard gearbox.

15HP!! I do have a mariner 9.9 without a prop (i got it with a disolved one)But thats really BIG!!! I couldent use that??

The Mariner 8HP is smaller with what seems a stronger transmition ohh!!WHY

Why cant all outboards have the same fitting for there prop that way we could use any that were suitable?

Where outside Malta can i find a large prop for either, my usual Evinrude 6HP or Mariner 8HP which migzt be used to climb the Rhone??

What "large crusing" prop should i look for? What size? for either my 6HP or 8HP?
