What insulation behind lining carpet?

Doing the job now, but first painted the the unsmooth old glue from the old foam lining [roughly disced] first to give a smooth and well secure base, before spraying the new glue onto the sides of the boat exactly where I wanted it and then placing the van carpet on; I previously had checked shape and given self an approx 10mm extra all round for ensuring it fits. Easy to trim off the excess where it wasn't in contact with the glue.

It's easy to apply. But not very pleasing to look at, in my opinion ...
 
By the time you've messed about glueing insulation on, then glueing van carpet on (making the boat look wrong and harder to sell in future, not to mention harder to keep clean, you may as well replace the foam backed vinyl. The vinyl last a decade or two, is easy to wipe clean and the foam stops most/all of the condensation.

Lining carpet (rather than van stretch carpet) looks good and was certainly used in lots of boats. My Dehler has it in all the sleeping cabins. The roof needs vinyl, in my opinion.

A lot of Westerlys had the roof vinyl on ply panels. I replaced the entire roof vinyl on my Discus in an afternoon.

No, thats just the same stuff surely!
Use closed cell foam, like old karrimats or similar, But use a contact adhesive that will work with foam to attachyour stretch carpet over it.

I was going to say same thing when first reading OP's post - but thought ... maybe I'm wrong ...

But looking again - I have to agree - it does look same as Van Lining - but maybe a little coarser ??

Van Lining is available in many colours so anyone thinking 'slate grey' - think again ...

No, it's not stretchable and is a bit like corduroy.
