What glue?

Re: Cascamite/Extramite failure

Resorcinol is a phenol.

You did want to know that didn't you!

Absolutely!
I understand that you're telling me that 'Cascophen' is really a 'phenol' adhesive since cascophen is a 'resorcinol'... which in turn is a 'phenol.. right?
Thanks for a very exhaustive reply. In no way did I wish to question your profession: sincere apologies if - quite unintentionally - I managed to do just that. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Cascamite/Extramite failure

Yes I think you've got the idea, but I did post all the chemistry a bit tongue in cheek and I was rather expecting insults for doing so (not from you of course).

Cascophen is sometimes refered to as a phenol- formaldehyde glue and sometimes as a resorcinol glue. I think in reality it contains both phenol and resorcinol. Also i think there is a whole range of materials that Joe Public never gets to know about using different proportions of the two.

Aerolite and Cascamite are colourless but phenol/resorcinol glues have a dark colour (purple-ish) that is not always acceptable and are rather more hazardous to use.

I can't believe there is so much debate. EPOXY IS THE BEST...LISTEN TO oldsaltoz. What he doesn't know about this subject isn't worth knowing.
