Our Fridgabot looks like it has finally rolled over and put its paws up in the air. The fridge box is under the settee berth in the saloon and is quite large and it makes sense to utilise it and install an electric compressor, but which one? May i have some views and recommendations please. we are both 24v and 12v. Thanks in anticipation.

What was the original compressor? I was thinking of the Frigoboat systems which used a Sanden car aircon compressor. I happen to have one of these in my cupboard, model 5020 an SD-5. I just can't find the space for a fridge, so it's surplus to requirements. A vehicle aircon mechanic could easily flush your existing system through and fit the new compressor. You'll have to flush the system anyway as all the muck from years of working will be in the oil and may damage a new compressor (whatever type) and once the system is rebuilt it has to be fluxhed, evacuated and refilled with gas and oil. The original installation used self sealing hoses for the components of the whole system, so each part was supplied gassed and oiled ready for use.

If the compressor would be of use to you, send me a PM and we'll see if I can get it to you.

Rob.

I've just upgraded our old isotherm system for a complete new frigoboat Paris system. It's cooling a 130l box very effectively and we're very pleased with the reduction in power consumption and increase in cooling efficiency (and it's also much quieter than the old system). Sourced from penguin engineering.
