Hi im looking for a filter tap to fit to the galley sink, one that removes bacteria and odours, any one have any tips? or recommendations. im not looking for a cheap option rather a good quality tap with a replaceable filter

I like systems based on industry standard filters that will not go out of production. A 0.5 micron carbon block filter will do what you want.

However, clean water is not just a filter. It is cleaning the tank, filtering the incoming water, filter on the vent, and at least occasional chlorination. Here is a summary.

Boy, have the prices gone up suddenly on this stuff. Tariffs in the US? Yup.

Thanks good advice :)

I installed a Water2 filter on my galley cold water tap. Not the cheapest (but much cheaper than Seagull and comparable to other in line filters that don’t claim to filter out as much). Blurb says it filters a load of stuff. Taste is good given tank water often has a detectable twang. I dose tank with Aquasol whenever I fill up.

Back pressure occasionally causes water pump to pulse but I could fix that if I just got round to installing a proper accumulator… worst case is you get a bit of pulsing in water flow. Could easily fit it in line for a separate filtered water tap if you wanted, but I thought why not just filter all cold in the galley.

I’m pretty confident Water2 is a scam. The water flow and size mean it’s extremely unlikely to actually do what they’re claiming.

Look at standard Brita taps which have a tiny spout and the massive filter which lasts only 6 months.
How could the device be smaller, last twice as long, filter more things, and have a flow rate the same as the original tap?

I installed one at home first, and anecdotally can say the water tasted significantly better. I was swayed by their claims around 0.1um filtration against microplastics, bacteria etc.

When I bought it last year, I directly compared filtration specs between Water2 and the Seagull by General ecology and the specs were virtually identical.

But I will absolutely admit I’m still sceptical and for clarity certainly not making any professionally informed recommendations - just sharing what I installed.

I’d love for someone to prove either way as to whether it really is legit - although I find it quite unbelievable that they could survive with the marketing this long without someone disproving it!

Fed up with Seagull's exorbitant filter cost I fitted a Pentek filter as recommended by Thinwater a few years back. Water taste is very good and I'm still here so it seems to do the job.

Thanks Thinwater for the recommendation 👍

Edit: Obvs I change the filter for the new season. Despite price increases it's not unaffordable unlike the Seagull filters.

I use a carbon filter at home, absolutely not necessary but it makes coffee and tea taste better, or so I think: my very unsophisticated method to check if it s time for replacement is when the surface of freshly made coffee/tea begins to show that sort of ultrafine staining film (which is not present with filtered water), it appears every six month or so, so I use two filters a year :)

I always use Aquasol too and that alone ensures my water always tastes good without the need for a filter.

Agree that I am really relying on Aquasol to get rid of nasties (both biological and bad smells) - but I always found I could taste the tank / hose plastic in the water (I have been told I am *overly* sensitive to taste...)

So my theory for having the inline filter on tap is that it really does clean up the taste, and also filters out any sediment, bits, bugs, mould etc. that might have found their way into the system. The claimed bacterial / parasite / microplastics filtration etc. seemed like a welcome bonus.

Yes this is the route / plan I will go with. Iv decided to fit a filter to the galley tap. I took some advice and went with a Jabsco filter. If it's not as good as I hope I will look at the Water2. I have used Aquasol before and had good results, so now when I fit the filter I will dose when I fill. Thanks for the info, Chris (@sailing_missmarkey)

Completely agree with this. Their claims don’t seem consistent with reality. If you’re filtering that fine then you lose pressure, if you’re carbon filtering the filter doesn’t last a year and certainly isn’t that small or fast flowing.

They survive with massive marketing on social media and from what I can see many fake reviews as well as early reviews of people who just fitted them. I can believe on day one a tiny carbon filter will work enough to reinforce the placebo affect.

I’m not wasting money to cut one open though, so hopefully after a year someone else will and can then explain how these impressive feats are achieved where nobody else in history has managed 🤣

Well I'm at a year, and about to put a replacement in at home (which I'd already bought at discount).

So I intend to do just this - will take pics!

That would be brilliant, I’m very curious what’s inside

I use a Brita jug with pattern filters
