What do you want in a review?

Re: Group tests

I like the idea of comparison to older boats - It would give a chance to assess how things have moved on (or not) over the years. I can see that picking the "golden oldie" would be fraught with problems though.

For the most part I just want the facts. Diagrams big enough to read usefully, and figures about the boat to provide objective information. Subjective views are valueable, but you need to understand the reviewers base-lines before thier views can be properly seen in context.

In addition to the normal kind of stuff , I'd like to see some detail of how the boat is contructed . For example when a bland comment is made like , "construction is a cut above average" , I'd like to know why and in some sort of detail. The reason I'm suggesting it is when I was looking for a new boat, I combed the market in some detail before plumping for the Maxi , but when I looked at a Bav/Jean/Ben etc. , I actually couldn't see much wrong with the finish with any of them ( except for the Hanse ) . I was either looking in the wrong places or there was actually very little wrong with the construction , so maybe some comments about the quality of constuction with examples , good practice and bad , would help people seriously interested in the boat.
