What do you have aboard to amuse yourself whilst at anchor?

Books, film DVDs, music CD's, Scrabble, Mexican train dominoes, fishing, scuba diving off the boat.

Ha-ha! We were only introduced to Mexican train dominoes a few weeks ago when we were invited aboard some other liveaboards' boat....what a hoot! But it can tend to bring out some over-competitive behaviour in some players ;)

Agree, it can be really cut throat with blocking moves but as you say it's a real hoot. I assume an American boat introduced you to it.

It was a British couple who introduced us to it but they had previously been to the Caribbean where they picked up a set.

They told us how seriously it's played in the Caribbean and how quickly you have to make your moves. We didn't take it quite that seriously though, or quickly but that could have been due to the quantity of wine involved :)

During day time, some painting and varnishing.
Evening, cooking, eating wine.

Just occasionally when the weather has been really nasty (i.e. raining), we have watched a film on the computer.

'What do you have aboard to amuse yourself whilst at anchor?'

A CQR.

I used to get quite bored when I was anchored, and slept a lot, but since I started reading the YBW forum I've learned that my CQR is no good. So I now spend my time biting my nails and taking cross bearings.

:D

Careful, you could get bitten by the anchoring bug! We can't bear the thought of tying up anywhere and always head for an anchorage, much more peaceful. It's well over a year since we last tied up.

Indeed, they'll be renaming Spinalonga Lagoon after you guys soon! ;)

An old skipper once told me that only whores are ever tied up. Boats are moored. :)

I have a wooden boat, takes up all my spare time at anchor!! Plus DVD's and books, must consider a kindle. Plus I have a beer fridge and friends and of course SWMBO. Plus lots of things to look at and ponder/plan.

Try UCKERS its an old navy game similar to ludo but with extra rules such as suck backs, blobs and mixi blobs. best played with two couples with a some grog down your throat. Apart from that the normal board games books etc.

Google uckers and you will get the rules etc.

Any connection between the two activities?
I.e. do you actually catch anything?

Usually! Shooting at them seems far more effective than waiting for them to bite! The thing is though, when you can see them, and watch them, it seems horrible to kill them! And when you eat them you make sure you waste as little as possible, out of respect.

Still flapping....

Zen is absolutely right..

There's is nothing in the world so good as fish taken straight from the water to the cooker... Catch your supper and eat it.. And it saves money!!

I could not agree more.

It also teaches the kids the true relationship between burger on the bun and the cow in the field. Priceless in this supermarket age.

I find the kids like to catch fish, but its me that despatches and cleans and cooks them.

Other things to amuse myself on board? books, guitar, telly and vids, everything I have at home but with the benefit of sunshine:D

Until recently, I amused myself by reading Nostrodamus' latest question. So now waiting for someone clever enough to start posting the questions I would have asked, if I'd thought of them!
