I would be interested to know what sort of yacht you were skipper of at the age of 3. Guinness Book of Records stuff, don't you think?

Have you ever been experienced? Well, I have,
let me prove it to you,
Trumpets and violins I can hear in the distance I think theyre callin our name
Maybe now you cant hear them,
But you will, ha-ha, if you just Take hold of my hand
Ohhh, but are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?

My point was that legislators have recognised the difficulties of proving this offence and are changing the legislation ,therefore in some ways the verdict is not surprising.

I was experienced, then I had twenty odd years away.

The basic boat handling, seamanship and the like came back easy enough but electrickery stuff like yacht radar, GPS, chart plotters etc are still a bit of mystery. Either black magic or alchemy, I'm not sure which. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Inexperienced = has sailed little, been responsible for some aspects of the boat + thinks this trip is going fine
Experienced = has sailed a lot and been responsible for all aspects of the boat + is aware something might go wrong
Very experienced = has sailed a lot and been responsible for all aspects of the boat + is aware something is always going wrong, the exact nature of what has gone wrong on this trip will reveal itself in due course

and can either sort the problem there and then, and assess the problems, and call for help the instant they realise there is a problem they maybe can't solve

Calling for help is not a pride issue, it's when you have objectively assessed all the problems and realised you can't solve all of them within a few minutes, and may have some real problems if you don't go a bit further
