winter has me itching for a project.

was wondering what peoples opinions are on this sealine s38 project.

I'd check the integrity of the forward deck/galley roof, looks like a lot of heat marking there, I'd be then checking cabling in the same area and behind the instrument console but it still a lot of money for an unknown quantity.

Brave to take that on. The heat can take the resin or strength out of it at least may look ok but also could be very weak.
If you’re up to making mouldings. Sections of grp etc

But without seeing and a proper check could be a massive can of expensive worms.

The seller/boatyard should pay you good money to take it off their hands.

Buy it, strip it down and sell it for spares. Then pay someone to take away the remains

Did it burn and sink ?
I wouldn’t touch it with out knowing how hot that fire got.
If I did…I would strip it very very carefully…photographing everything to see how it went back together. I would not throw a thing away…I would store it carefully labelled or in the same position that it came out in…what can’t be salvaged will be your template.
Personally I would walk away…sad, because from the outside it looks a lovely boat

That's a lot of work. The whole interior needs stripping and cleaning and as mentioned the smell will linger.

you would be buying sold as seen so you have all the risk.....apart from structural damage there is soft furnishing and cabinetry replacement and a legion of unknowns ....if you have good diy skills you may manage a reasonable result but if you are employing others the bills will soon escalate.... the value at present is in the secondhand engines and drives and other sellable bits and bobs strikes me at 47k its too much money!! and the smell ugh and toxic too.

The reason for not leaving an unattended dehumidifier running.

For another £50-60k you can buy a turn-key boat without all the grief.
Some S38 parts are still available but at huge cost. They also use the Seaplex wiring system which is now toast.
Check the structural repairs were carried out by either Sealine or Desty and theres a certificate.

It's advertised for way too much money; if it was pristine it's worth what 90-100k if you can find a buyer, so you have 45-50k you could spend on it.
But even when it's fixed up it's still going to sell at a heavy discount unless you can reinvent it and disguise it's history.

50k would disappear in days in just parts to refit it.

Realistically even if they paid you 20k to take it away it would still end up a bad deal if you repaired it. It needs to be stripped out for parts and as someone else said, it's currently worth the market value of the engines (say 8k each).
