Agree 100% - provided that one has a natural aptitude for good D-I-Y work and is not endowed with ten thumbs.
The Sailrite site has loads of information and ideas that encourage and inspire. I would add a good book about the art of sailmaking: it helps to understand what to aim for rather than slavishly following a set of instructions. A bit like cooking really; it just requires some flair.
