Hi.
I have completed the RYA Dayskipper Practical and Theory courses. I believe this allows me to automatically apply/receive the canal certificate (CCI) I think it is? Can anyone confirm this and any other legal requirements for french canal cruising. Or does anyone know the RYA site well enough to give directions.
Cheers guys.

My understanding is that you will have to have the CENVI certificate.this is a seperate test but seems to be fairly easy to complete,im sure theres quite a few members who have this and they will probabaly advise on how to get it

You should have the International Certificate of Competence, issued by the RYA, with the CEVNI endorsement for inland waterways. Any RYA recognized school should be able to administer the test, which is a series of multiple choice questions. I think you are allowed to get two or three wrong. That said, in seven years cruising in France, I cannot remember anyone in authority actually asking to see the thing.

Skysail's PBO prompts look really good esp if you can print and laminate them. Also consider buying this and swatting up on it before taking CEVNI exam - no need to enroll on a course

The PBO CEVNI charts are A3 which are just about readable if printed on A4 (at least with my eyes!). The RYA book is very good.

Another thought - I believe you are supposed to carry a copy of the CEVNI rules on board at all times - but that the authorities accept the RYA version. Again, no-one has ever asked to see it, but I do have one stuffed away somewhere.
