What are you paying for fuel

I completely get paying tax, if we didn't we'd be in the same state as the Greeks but the cost of fuel has been a deterant to some people getting into boating.

When you think of how much money the marine leisure industry generates for the economy both on a national and local level you would think a little help on fuel prices wouldn't be unreasonable.

I know our cousins in the EU would get their nickels in a twist but what harm would be done by supporting this sector, even if all member states did this the net effect re loss of income in tax would be negligible

Agree, sometimes feels like the grafters are the ones paying the highest price

Again excuse my naivety but how would dracula know that I purchased the fuel at commercial rates, do the fuel companies send records of fuel sales by boats to the blood suckers !

When I used to deal with this the paperwork in ridiculous, another cost that has to be covered, you fill out a monthly customs report that has to account for ever litre bought and sold. Before selling we always got customer name, address and boat name.

It depends whether HMRC choose to check & how you paid.

If you pay by card they have transaction details & a link to you & your bank. If you pay cash, declare "all heating" and supply a false name & address it would be much harder to trace you, altho, there could be a timed video on the pump at a marina. But why would any one want to avoid taxes the pay for schools, NHS, Trident & MP's salaries & expenses?

Ah, that means we can fiddle 50% then - i.e. just the amount to cover MP's expenses...

I was unpleasantly surprised ti find it was still £1.06 at Cobbs Quay with 60/40 and 5% discount in January. Same as it was last Autumn!

I can confirm this as put the fuel in yesterday at the same price gutted as I knew in 2 and half hours I would get it for 83 pence in Gosport. Gutted but could not take the risk

You have to keep in mind that it was not HMRC who instigated the increased taxation of red diesel, it was the rest of Europe. The UK powers that be held off for as long as possible.

As things stand HMRC are getting more money than they used to so I'm not sure how much effort they would put into enforcing the 60/40 split. Let's face it, they have sent out a pretty clear message in agreeing to 60/40 in the first place. I bet over half the boats don't even have a generator on board

With the engine running you are creating electrickery and hot water for domestic purposes.

Oh I thought you also had to move the boat along quite frequently to change the angle on the solar panel for your green quota of power
