What are you hoping Santa brings you for Xmas ??

OS 55 Ax engine for the Avanti 60 inch wingspan model plane I am building whilst I am recovering.
I was going to ask for Alibre CAD software, as I am learning CAD this winter, to keep the brain active. In the UK this runs circa £400 with 1 year maintenance. However, quite by chance, I got the last day of a black friday deal in Texas USA & bought it tax free at £127.complete with 1 years support. So I got it myself whilst I could.
My new wind steering design is well under way.
Now I have that, I expect I will have to buy a new laptop. On top of the new VHF for the boat before launch date.
I think that the new ST jib might wait until next winter. Depends how the hip goes & if I end up using the new engine more rather than sails.

A Glow fuel man !!

Not many of us left !! I was a Super Tigre devotee till they sold of the brand ... and of course E-Power came along ... but still like to fire up my Glow and Gasoline jobs ....

OS 55 Ax engine………
Good choice, OS remain the best engines, imho. The majority of my models are OS powered. Having said that, I quite like the Evolution 2t petrol engines. Even though they are Chinese, I like the pumped carbs for improved reliability, especially when opening the throttle at low height and speed. Another advantage is significantly lower fuel consumption and significantly lower cost fuel. Doesn’t have the same nostalgic smell of nitro, though 😁

mmmm OS stopped being Japanese quite a few years ago ... I stopped buying OS when then I got hold of an OS70FS ... absolute shite !! Guy had fitted to an Extreme Flight Extra 58" .... was pitiful ... no wonder he crashed it and then sold it to me ... I ripped that out and fitted an ASP 90FS ... THEN she flew !! Till an aileron servo gave out and jammed hard over ...

My choice now is ASP as they are the older OS engine designs from the Japanese era ... ad RCGF for gasoline ... Before - I would have bought Super Tigre - but Italians sold out and the quality went out the window.

Must say that the worst engine I have ... Irvine 50 Red Head .... that needs to be ripped out of my Kyosho Pitts and given the kick of shame ... keep meaning to swap out for an ASP 61 ...

The past is fairly mysterious. That's why archaeologists so often claim that a baffling arrangement of old stuff got that way due to "ritual". Judging by what I've seen on some boats, and some of the advice I've seen given about boat changes, I'd say this is perfectly applicable!

For Christmas, from my family, I'm getting... time to go on courses. That is priceless.

An oiled wool jumper.

I have had one for an age, my mother bought it for me when I was in my 20's. My son was wearing it but had it removed by the police at an ER protest in London and it became lost. Such is life. It was a well travelled jumper, robust and withstood a lot of wear and tear. I hope it ended up in a UK charity shop or issued to the homeless and not shredded for rags.

Had one when in Sea Cadets ... then had one when MN Cadet ... must say - best jumpers of all ....

I’m sure that we could have a heated but enjoyable discussion “on the field” 😁

Personally, I wouldn’t touch an SC/ASP with a barge pole.

All of my OS engines are of the FS and FP era, still going strong after years of use.

I like the later Irvine range, too. I have a couple of Mk4 40s. Manufacture had been transferred to the OS factory in Japan and they dumped the British designed carbs for one of their own.

We ICE model flyers need to stick together as we are a dying breed 👍

Well I was going to put an electric motor in this model. However, it does not really suit electric. It is a pattern plane with a narrow fuselage & the stuff just does not fit without lots of re design. It is a perfect 60inch pattern plane & I do not want to spoil it.
I had a 120 Super Tigre, but it nackered the bearings, then dropped the con rod whilst revving to hard. I was far from impressed considering the cost.

I do have a DLE in my MX & a YS 120 in my Pitts, which is a bit underpowered. The OS 55's only last one plane as they are knackered after that. The same for the Irvine 40's in trainers. I found the MDS I had lives up to its name =Many Dead Starts. I do not think that I have had a successful flight out of it.
I have worn the electric motor out in my Jive so I am not enamoured with the longetivity of outrunners really.
