Hi can anyone help I have 2 large Rope Stopper Balls on my boom at the Boom bracket section I think it’s something to do with a reefing system but I’m guessing?

Looks like there should be a rams horn in the hole where the clackers are. (imagine kenneth Williams saying that🤣)

Agree with others - probably to do with reefing. Actually quite a good system, compared to ‘rams horns’, I reckon. All you need on tack reefing cringles is a looped line that just fits over ball - less likely to fall off than equivalent rams horn set up.

About to redesign my existing cringle and rams horn system so listening to suggestions with interest. Would like to have gone to single line but too much faff as existing system does not lend itself to that easily. Currenty the clew reef lines are back to cockpit through boom with the tack on horns. Thought about seperate tack line but just too many lines in the cockpit and needs more blocks and cleats so will probably just fit some sort of spectacle at the tack cringles that wont fall off the horns too easily. Any suggestions welcome. Only 21 footer so no massive loads to contend with but always single handed.

I used some bungy cord from a cleat to the horns to keep the tack cringle / reef bit in place. Made life so much easier when reefing. Doesn't look pretty close up though but hardly visible through halyard's from a slight distance.

Guess theres two issues for me with existing setup. Its hard to get the cringle over the horn initially but then it falls off before i get tension on the main halyard. Bungee would solve the falling off problem though, thanks.

So instead of the ram's horns, your system is the dog's proverbial spheroids?

In my view anything that doesn't pop out at a critical moment has to be better...

I have a short length of clear hose pushed on from one rams horn to the other underneath the boom, to stop the spectacles falling off the horns if I lose tension before hardening back up. If they do sag, the hose leads them back onto the horns when I pull up.

Maybe the idea is to pass a loop of the red rope through the spectacle ring on the sail then pass the white ball through the loop. But the red rope looks a bit short for that.

Other end that we cant see may have an elongated loop on it to go through the ring and then hook onto this ball.
