Had a wonderful year for whale sightings.
Have seen three at the mouth of Loch Fyne - on one occassion what we took to be mother an baby. Almost definately mother and baby.
Have a great series of pictures of pilot whale which surface alongside us as we went past Staffa. Held parralel course about 10 - 15 feet off for about 10 minutes then started to dive under our keel from side to side. That was a bit disconcerting. It must have been a good 20' in length.
Conditions were flat calm and we had the engine on and cruising at 5 knots with depthsounder on.
Loved it when he/she rolled over and had a good look at us.
My parents reported a sighting of a basking shark last week in Loch Fyne. They were crossing on the Portavadie/Tarbert ferry when it stopped so the passengers could have a good look.
Personally havn't seen any basking sharks this year. First time for a few years they havn't turned up.
